The company I work for sells big printers (amongst other things). For the company website (www.sigmasdi.co.uk ) I used virtuemart as more of a product catalogue (although we will be selling consumables for the previously mentioned equipment) I wanted to emulate the product pages of many of the big blue chips, where by all of the resouces for a given product can be found on one page. This includes of course, drivers and other downloadables. I'm using remository to act as the download component, and so wanted a way to show the contents of a remository folder, against a given product in virtuemart. The chaps who wrote remository (good job fellas!) also wrote a mambot that can show individual files, whole categories, or folders. Which functionally did what I wanted, but didnt retain the look and feel of the remository component. If you're not bothered about it looking slightly different to the category browse pages in remository, then I suggest you use theirs (Called quickdown ) But if (like me the awkward bar-stuard) you want to keep things a bit more consistent for your users, readon! By the way, you can see the mambot in action at sigmasdi.co.uk (click on the support tab)
Installation instructions as follows: - Download the mambot - link at the bottom of this page
- install in the Joomla backend as normal
- Go to the mambots section and make sure you publish it
- Configure the mambot and enter the remository ItemId into the field. You can find this out by visiting one of your remository pages and checking to see what the Itemid is in the url. - Getting this wrong or not entering it is not catastrophic, but you'll find things like modules might not display when they should.
- In your content enter {showremofolder <remository folder id>} - obviously you'll have to check in the admin section of remository to find out the remository folder/category id
A couple of things to bare in mind
- It doesnt actually reference the remository code to render the html, the upshot (at the moment) is that you cant sort by filename, id, etc... etc... probably put that in the next version
- Its written for Joomla 1.0.x so I dont know if it will work in Joomla 1.5
- For each file it only shows the submitted on, and filesize fields
Thats it, download the show remo folder mambot here
